An evening with Longridge Mount Cutters

An informative and enjoyable evening presented by Chris and Eden from Longridge Mount Cutters who not only demonstrated their mount cutters but also gave us some very interesting facts about the various mount boards available. We also learnt a lot about the intricate engineering which went into the design of the mount cutters, measuring and finishing of cutting the perfect mount. We all learnt a lot and some members purchased cutters. Thanks indeed to Chris and Eden for travelling from Dorset to give us a great evening.

1st Quarterly Print Competition

Our first Quarterly Print competition of the season was judged by Darren Woolway ARPS AMPA. First and second place in Group 1 was awarded to Laura Drury with her images, "The Prodigal Gosling" and "Former Glory", with third place going to Cherry Larcombe with "Flower Garden Monet Style". In Group 2, John Sammonds took first and second place with "Symmetry" and "Take Five". Nicola Clamp was third with "Colourful Street".

Distinctions Explained

On 8 October Club Member and Premier Judge Cherry Larcombe EFIAP ARPS DPAGB BPE*5 provided an insight into the world of "Distinctions" - awards given by different photographic organisations to individuals who have proved a level of competence and expertise entitling them to use approved designations. The different categories and levels of distinction were described in detail. Cherry also explained the effort involved in achieving her awards with her favourite being that given by the FIAP - Federation Internationale of Artists and Photographers, which operates in 85 different countries and aims to support club photography for all affiliated clubs. Exhibition at the York Street Gallery

Our week long exhibition at the York Street Gallery has now closed. It was a very successful week with members displaying a varied display of framed images which certainly showed off the versatility of the clubs' photographers. Thanks to Mike Samson at the Gallery for his help in hanging and managing the exhibition. Many visitors left complimentary comments in the visitors' book and a few members sold their work.
